Departments may place a hold on a student's account at any time, including during the registration process.

Many campus departments have the ability to place registration holds on students. A registration hold will prevent a student from adding/removing courses or withdrawing from the Institute. The department that places the hold must also remove it.

Viewing holds:

  • Log into Buzzport
  • On the Home tab locate the "REGISTRATION AND STUDENT SERVICES" channel
  • Select the "Registration - OSCAR" link
  • Select "Student Services & Financial Aid"
  • Select "Student Records"
  • Select "View Holds"

More about Holds

Waitlisting is a function that academic departments may employ that allows students to add to a waitlist for a course that is closed.  Once a student has waitlisted for a course section, he or she will receive notification via email if a seat becomes available in that section.  Waitlisted students are notified on a “first-come-first-serve” basis, and once the notification is received, he or she will have a specified window of time to register for the course.  The email notification will specify your window of time. Students will have 12 hours to register for the course section after notification. Waitlisting is not registration or enrollment in the courses.

Permits and overloads are issued by the departments teaching the course. Some departments are using the on-line permit/overload request system on OSCAR. To apply for a permit or overload on-line, see the directions below. If the department is not listed on the on-line system, they may be using the waitlist function. Click here for instructions for how to identify course sections that are using a waitlist. If the department or course is not listed, then contact them directly. Please refer to the departmental contact list for procedures.
