Many campus departments have the ability to place registration and/or transcript holds on students. A registration hold will prevent a student from adding/removing courses, dropping courses, and withdrawing from school. A transcript hold will prevent the aforementioned as well as the release of the student's official academic records, including transcripts, degree verifications, and certifications of enrollment. Georgia Tech does not release “unofficial” academic records. A transcript hold is usually placed when a student has a financial obligation to the Institute.
It is very important that students maintain emergency contact information. Students may list as many emergency contacts as they wish. This information is confidential. Only the Georgia Tech Police Department and the Dean of Students Office have access to this information. It is the student’s responsibility to update the contact information.
Authoritative information regarding withdrawal and readmission is published under Rules & Regulations VIII in the Catalog.
Georgia Tech has one deadline for individual course drops and for complete withdrawals from the Institute. See the Academic Calendar for deadlines by term.
Students have the right to request that their records be flagged as confidential, or prohibit the printing of their information in the on-line or printed school directory.
A previously requested confidentiality or no print indicator may be rescinded at any time.
Students who have been out for two or more consecutive terms must apply for readmission. Students who are on first or second dismissal must apply for readmission. Readmission is not guaranteed. If the student has been out for 3 or more years, he/she may be eligible for academic renewal.
